The PACER Co Infant First Aid Course has been developed to provide parents, grandparents, carers and families with the knowledge and confidence to respond when it matters most. Delivered by a dual-qualified Midwife and Paramedic, this practical and engaging course combines years of frontline healthcare experience with evidence-based infant and child health education.
Designed specifically for families and caregivers, the course focuses on building confidence, reducing uncertainty and helping participants feel better prepared to care for babies and young children in everyday situations and emergencies alike. Whether you're preparing for your first child, refreshing your knowledge, or supporting a growing family, you'll leave with practical skills, valuable insights and greater peace of mind.
This course focuses on the common illnesses, injuries and emergencies that parents and caregivers may encounter when caring for babies and young children. Through practical demonstrations, discussion and hands-on learning, participants will develop the confidence to recognise when something is wrong and know what action to take.
Learn the fundamentals of infant and child CPR, including how to respond when a child is unconscious or not breathing normally.
Understand how to recognise choking and provide immediate first aid using age-appropriate techniques for infants and children.
Learn how to identify the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child requires urgent medical assessment or emergency care.
Explore common childhood respiratory conditions (breathing problems) including croup, bronchiolitis and asthma, and understand when to seek help.
Learn to recognise allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, including the use of EpiPen® in an emergency.
Understand fever management and learn how to respond calmly and safely if a child experiences a febrile convulsion (seizure).
Discover the immediate steps to take following accidental poisoning and learn practical prevention strategies for the home.
Gain practical first aid skills for managing common childhood injuries including burns, cuts, bumps and bruises.
Learn how to assess and respond to suspected head injuries and broken bones, including when emergency care is required.
Explore current safe sleeping recommendations and practical strategies to support infant safety at home.
Understand when to call an ambulance, seek medical review, or access the range of support services available to families.
This course is delivered face-to-face over 3.5 hours.
Training is delivered in a relaxed and interactive format, combining practical demonstrations, hands-on skill development, real-world scenarios, and opportunities for questions and discussion.
PACER co can deliver training at your home, workplace, community venue, mother’s group, childcare service, or other suitable location.
Nil – all learners welcome, no prior experience required. Parents, grandparents, friends, neighbours, aunties, uncles, carers… everyone is welcome!
