Overview

Sudden cardiac arrest comes without warning. Having the confidence to act fast can save a life.


This nationally accredited course equips you with the essential skills to respond to the most severe and time-critical medical emergency. Whether you're renewing your certification or learning CPR for the first time, this course is highly practical, engaging, and taught by experienced paramedics who bring real-world insight into every scenario.


You’ll learn how to confidently perform CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) in line with the latest Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Course Outline

This nationally accredited course (HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) covers the essential skills and knowledge required to respond confidently in emergency situations. Delivered by experienced paramedics, the training is practical, hands-on, and focused on real-world application.

  1. The DRSABCD action plan and responding to an emergency

    Learn how to quickly assess and respond to an emergency scene using the DRSABCD protocol — a proven approach for managing life-threatening situations safely and effectively.

  2. Managing Unconscious Casualties

    Understand how to position and monitor an unresponsive person to protect their airway and prevent further harm until help arrives.

  3. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    Develop the skills to perform high-quality chest compressions and rescue breaths on both adults and infants, in line with current ARC guidelines.

  4. Using a Defibrillator (AED)

    Gain confidence using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including when and how to apply it during a cardiac arrest.

  5. Legal Issues in First Aid

    Know your rights and responsibilities as a first aider, including duty of care, consent, and reporting requirements.

  6. Infection Control

    Learn how to protect yourself and others by applying safe hygiene practices in first aid situations.

Blended: Up to 1 hour online + approximately 2 hours face-to-face

Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Nil – all learners welcome, no prior experience required

This course includes both a theory and practical component. You’ll learn by doing—working through engaging, real-world scenarios guided by qualified paramedics.

To successfully complete the course, learners must:

  • Participate in all practical training
  • Pass a short theory assessment
  • Demonstrate effective CPR for at least two minutes on a manikin placed on the floor

Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is valid for 12 months and should be renewed annually.
