Overview

First aid is more than a workplace requirement—it’s a life skill. This nationally accredited course gives you the confidence and capability to respond to a wide range of first aid emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions.

HLTAID011 includes HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID009 – Provide CPR, streamlining them all into one course.

Delivered by experienced paramedics, this course goes beyond the basics. You'll get hands-on experience managing realistic emergency scenarios and walk away with practical skills you can use at work, at home, or in the community. Our practical sessions are engaging, supportive, and designed to build genuine confidence.

Course Outline

This nationally accredited course (HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid) teaches you how to confidently respond to a wide range of first aid situations. Delivered by experienced paramedics, the training is hands-on, practical, and focused on real-world emergencies—from minor injuries to life-threatening incidents.

  1. The DRSABCD action plan and responding to an emergency

    Learn how to quickly assess and respond to an emergency scene using the DRSABCD protocol — a proven approach for managing life-threatening situations safely and effectively.

  2. Managing Unconscious Casualties

    Understand how to position and monitor an unresponsive person to protect their airway and prevent further harm until help arrives.

  3. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Using a Defibrillator (AED)

    Develop the skills to perform high-quality chest compressions and rescue breaths, and safely operate an AED during a cardiac emergency.

  4. Infection Control and Legal Responsibilities

    Follow safe hygiene practices and understand your legal obligations as a trained first aider.

  5. Manage Common Injuries

    Learn how to manage a wide range of injuries including:

    • Bleeding and wounds
    • Sprains and fractures
    • Bites and stings
    • Burns
    • Choking
    • Serious trauma such as head, spinal, or facial injuries.
  6. Recognise and Respond to Medical Emergencies

    Identify and respond to critical health emergencies such as:


    • Stroke

    • Heart attack

    • Asthma 

    • Anaphylaxis

    • Diabetes

    • Seizures 

    • Drowning

    • Poisoning

    • Environmental exposure
  7. First Aid Incident Reporting

    Understand how to give verbal updates and complete written incident reports accurately and professionally.

Blended: Up to 4 hours online + up to 4 hours face-to-face.
Face-to-Face Only: Up to 8 hours.

Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Nil – all learners welcome, no prior experience required.

This course includes both a theory and practical component. You’ll learn by doing—guided by paramedics who bring real-world experience into every session To successfully complete the course, learners must:

  • Participate in all practical training
  • Pass a short theory assessment
  • Demonstrate effective CPR for at least two minutes on a manikin placed on the floor

Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is valid for 3 years. The HLTAID009 (CPR) component should be renewed every 12 months.
